Abstract

This article discusses the growing volume of raw data collected during clinical research, and how transforming the mountain of data into clinical and safety insights is an industry-wide challenge. As the volume and variety of research data continues to grow, it is increasingly difficult to transform it into knowledge for timely decision-making because it is often produced from different source systems that do not share a common standard. Unifying and cleaning data to enable comprehensive analyses is a problem that often slows down the R&D engine. Turning the waterfall of data into one coherent stream is a fundamental and necessary step researchers must take before they analyze it for key decisions, including continuing programs or pivoting resources and submitting it to regulators for review and approvals.
