Certara Launches Fellowship Program in Africa for Applied Pharmacometrics Training

PRINCETON, N.J.— November 8, 2021 — Certara, Inc, a global leader in biosimulation, today announced that it is launching a fellowship program for doctoral-level scientists from Africa, in partnership with Pharmacometrics Africa, CP+ Associates, and other industry and academic partners.

The Applied Pharmacometrics Training Fellowship in Africa aims to build scientific and leadership capability in the region by enhancing the skills of scientists and facilitating knowledge transfer to wider scientific communities.  Applicants must meet certain criteria to be eligible for the fellowship, such as holding a Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant discipline and having conducted at least one clinical pharmacology or pharmacometrics data analysis project using quantitative methods. The first cohort will begin their fellowship in January, 2022.

“We are excited to launch the fellowship and bring on board our first class of fellows based in Africa.  Our goal is to make the training durable and expand our scientific partnerships worldwide.   We believe that there is an opportunity to apply cutting-edge quantitative approaches to advance drug development programs that address diseases with unmet needs in Africa and globally,” said Rik de Greef, senior vice president of global quantitative science services at Certara.

The fellowship is comprised of a 3-month virtual program that provides fellows with exposure to pharmacometrics and model-based analyses.  Upon completion of the virtual program, fellows have the option to continue for another 3 months in an on-site immersion program where they will receive training on regulatory-quality pharmacometrics analyses and reports.  Successful fellows of this program will be considered as candidates to form the first Certara consulting team located in Africa.

“This is a major step towards job creation and nurturing the next generation of pharmaceutical scientists while building critical capabilities in Africa,” said Colin Pillai, Ph.D., CEO of Pharmacometrics Africa and founder and CEO of CP+ Associates.  “This will be an intense but rewarding program.  I am thrilled to be working with our partners to develop the curriculum and look forward to seeing the impact of these up-and-coming scientists.”

The fellowship program is accepting applications until November 21, 2021.  To learn more or apply, please visit the application site.
