We are pleased to welcome guest speaker Dr. Kazuko Sagawa, Ph.D., from Pfizer Global Research and Development. Learn how biopharmaceutical PBPK modeling can support formulation design during drug development and how virtual bioequivalence simulations may provide an alternative to clinical bioequivalence trials. Several case examples will be presented.

Pfizer Global Research and Development
Dr. Sagawa is a Research Fellow at Pfizer Research and Development in Groton Connecticut. As a member of a multidisciplinary team within Pfizer, she has been involved in developing biopharmaceutics strategy for drug product development. The work includes biopharmaceutics risk assessment, PBPK model development, and clinical bioequivalence risk assessment. Dr. Sagawa received her B.Sc in Pharmacy from Tokyo University of Pharmacy and Life Sciences (Tokyo Japan) and her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of New York at Buffalo (Buffalo, NY).

Senior Director of PBPK Consultancy, CertaraNoriko Okudaira, PhD, is a senior member of the Simcyp team, with deep expertise in PBPK modelling for small molecule drugs and a distinguished career spanning Nippon Roche (now Chugai Pharmaceutical), Meiji Seika Pharma, and Daiichi Sankyo. She provides strategic scientific leadership on PBPK applications across discovery and clinical development, bringing a rare combination of multinational industry experience and academic excellence to her work. She holds MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Tokyo. She also had the opportunity to train in the laboratory of Professor Leslie Z. Benet at the University of California, San Francisco — one of the world’s foremost authorities in pharmacokinetics — an experience that helped shape the scientific foundation underlying her work at Certara.
