Tips & Tricks for Data Management in Phoenix WinNonlin

Certara’s Phoenix™ Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) Platform streamlines data management through integrated workflows that you can share across your pharmaceutical organization. With traceable, reliable and reproduceable data at your team’s fingertips, you can make better-informed decisions during drug development.

One of the most powerful tools in Phoenix is the Data Wizard, designed to facilitate repeated data operations on the same dataset. Here are two not well-known functionalities of the Data Wizard that you might find helpful in your everyday work:

Add Units to your Data Wizard Transformations

When you are performing a transformation, you can borrow a unit from any column (including a unitless column) from your input dataset. A unit from any column can become the unit of your new column in the Data Wizard result. Watch how to do this transformation in this short video:

Use Nested “If Statements” to Make Substitutions

Phoenix can use “if-then-else” statements to transform data in worksheets.

For example, if you have a pharmacodynamic response worksheet with several standardized response types—such as varying levels of reported pain from a scale of 1 to 10. Maybe you want to classify the pain levels as high, medium, or low. In other words, you want to apply a different logic to each row depending on its value.

Send your worksheet to the Data Wizard and add a Custom Transformation to create a new column with a formula. Choose or type the “If” function in Data Wizard and enter the condition arguments.  Embedded “if” statements are also acceptable.

See how it works in this short video:

These are just two of the many ways to make the most of the Data Wizard, and the Data Wizard is just one of the many data management tools in Phoenix.
