1. Do I need to install or have access to the software version that I am being certified on?
No, the exam includes interactive questions that test your knowledge of the software but doesn’t require access to it.
2. Do I need to register with Certara University to take the certification exam?
Yes, the Certara Professional Certification Exam is administered within the learning system of Certara University. You will need to register and you will be automatically enrolled in a course that consists of the exam.
3. After I register for a certification exam, do I need to start right away?
No, your registration is valid for 3 years. You can watch the introductory video as many times as you like. However, when you play the exam, you will be prompted to indicate whether you want to start the exam. Once you press the Start Exam button, the clock will start to count down to 3 hours. Do not close the exam until you are finished and a score has been provided.
4. I am very familiar with Phoenix WinNonlin, am I required to take a course with Certara to obtain a Certara Professional Certification?
No, you can take the certification exam without having taking a Certara University course.
5. Can I opt out of the certification directory?
To opt out of the Certara certification directory, you need to change your ebadge from public to private. Login to your Acclaim account, select Manage Profile and then select Privacy. Click on your ebadge and select Private for the badge options.
6. What is the difference between a certification exam and an update certification exam?
A certification exam is longer and includes theoretical questions on several areas. It certifies the proficiency of the examinee on the full use of the software and PK/PD principles. An update certification exam is shorter and only covers differences on the use of the software between versions.
7. If I let my certification expired, but now I wish to obtain a certification with a newer software version, can I apply for a certification update?
Yes, if you obtained a Certara Professional Certification you can apply for a certification update even if the certification has expired. However, you will need to take all the updates to all the newer versions of Phoenix. For example, let’s assume that you held a certification as a “Phoenix WinNonlin 8.1 Certara Certified NCA Analyst’.” Four years after your certification, Phoenix WinNonlin was on version 9.1 and you never renewed your certification. Between versions 8.1 and 9.1 there were 5 versions released: 8.2, 8.2.1, 8.3, 9.0, 9.1. To update your certification to “Phoenix WinNonlin 9.1 Certara Certified NCA Analyst” you will need to take 4 certification updates: 8.2, 8.3, 9.0 and 9.1. Note that no update is needed for minor releases like 8.2.1. On the other hand, you can take the full certification test for “Phoenix WinNonlin 9.1 Certara Certified NCA Analyst” instead of 4 certification updates.
8. Can I renew a certification?
Yes, after a certification has expired (eg, 3 years), a certification can be renewed by applying to renew a certification. Exam renewals are shorter than original certifications and do not involve assignments.
9. Are there academic discounts for certifications?
There are no standard discounts for academics taking the Certara Professional Certifications because this acknowledgement is created for non-academic professionals in mind even though academia is welcome to take these certifications. However, it is possible that once in a while there might be a limited-time promotion for academia, government and students. Certara University offers significant standard discounts (50% off) for training courses to students associated with a reputable academic organization.
10. Can I obtain a certification using Phoenix WinNonlin 6.4 or Phoenix WinNonlin 7.0?
No, the Certara Professional Certification program started on June 18, 2018 using the then current version of the software, Phoenix 8.0. One can obtain certifications using Phoenix version 8.0 and/or later versions. If you feel that you have good understanding of Phoenix WinNonlin 6.4 or 7.0, you can review free videos on what is new in Phoenix 8 and you should be able to have the sufficient knowledge to pass the certification exam using Phoenix 8. It is unusual for features to change between versions and most of the time new features are added without invalidating previous functionality.
11. What happens if I fail the certification exam?
Each registration provides 2 attempts at passing the exam. If both exams are failed, the user would need to register again for the exam in order to have a third chance to pass the exam.
12. Do I need special software to take the exam?
There is no need to have access any software to take the test.
13. How long do I have to take the exam once I’ve started?
You will need to complete the full exam within 3 hours from the time you press the Start Exam button. There is also a limit of 3 minutes per question. You cannot go back to questions that have already been answered. This allotted time is more than enough to allow you to answer questions and prove your knowledge of the software.
14. Is there a passing grade? If I do not pass, can I try again?
A certification will be granted if 75% of the questions are answered correctly. Each registration includes a maximum of two attempts at passing the exam.
15. How long will my certification be valid?
Certara Professional Certifications are valid for 3 years.
16. What is a Certara digital badge?
A digital badge associated with each earned Certara certification will be provided to you to communicate your credentials in a verified manner. Certara certification digital badges are delivered by Credly’s Acclaim platform and can be used in email signatures, digital résumés, and social media sites such as LinkedIn. A digital badge is an image that contains verified metadata describing your qualifications and the process required to earn them.
17. How can I obtain a printed certificate of my accreditation?
After you have accepted your ebadge from Acclaim, you can obtain a printed certificate by clicking on the SHARE button under your ebadge (Badges>Share Badge) and selecting the last option to PRINT as shown in the screenshots below.
