Since the ECHELON CIRCULAR™ powered stapler (ECP) reduced complications (anastomotic leak, bleeding, and infection), a financial argument could be made to justify the additional cost of the stapler.

  • Built a budget impact analysis using recently published complication costs and a recently conducted matched indirect comparison of ECP and SOC
  • Findings showed that despite the higher price, annual savings due to avoided complications with ECP ranged from $41,263 (bleeding) and $44,903 (anastomotic leak) to $67,978 (infection), assuming 100 procedures per year with each type of stapler
